PACKAGING GUIDES
SIZING & PACKING
Because dimensions aren't much help until you know what actually fits.
From measuring your products properly to allowing enough room for packing, this guide covers the practical stuff that helps you get the fit right.
THE SHORT VERSION
FIT MATTERS.
Packaging should give your product enough room without leaving unnecessary empty space. A good fit usually means better protection, easier packing and less material.
STEP ONE
MEASURE WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING INSIDE.
Start with the product rather than the packaging. Measure its width, height and depth in the form it will actually be packed.
For soft products such as clothing, that means measuring them folded. For rigid products, remember that depth can make a surprisingly big difference to the usable space inside a bag or envelope.
STEP TWO
LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO PACK IT.
A packaging size that looks perfect on paper can become very snug once a three-dimensional product goes inside.
Allow enough space for the product to slide in comfortably, for any inner packaging you use and for the closure to work properly.
STEP THREE
DON'T OVERSIZE IT EITHER.
Bigger isn't always safer. Excess space can allow products to move around and may mean using more packaging than you actually need.
A well-fitted pack should protect the product, be straightforward to pack and avoid unnecessary material wherever practical.
OUR FAVOURITE ADVICE
WHEN IN DOUBT, TEST THE FIT.
Measurements are useful. Physically putting your product into the packaging is better.
Testing before buying larger quantities can save a lot of head-scratching later.
FIND YOUR FIT
PACKAGING IN DIFFERENT SHAPES & SIZES.
The right size depends on more than measurements. Think about the shape, flexibility and protection your product needs β then choose packaging that fits without unnecessary space.

ONE LAST THING
THE NUMBERS ARE ONLY THE START.
The right packaging isn't simply the smallest size your product can squeeze into. It's the size that protects it, packs efficiently and makes sense for the journey ahead.
