SUSTAINABILITY, EXPLAINED

SUSTAINABILITY WITHOUT THE BUZZWORDS.

Sustainability language can get complicated very quickly.

This is where we strip some of it back — looking at materials, disposal, claims and the practical details that actually matter.

START WITH THE DETAILS

ONE WORD RARELY TELLS THE WHOLE STORY.

Words such as recyclable, compostable, biodegradable and paper can sound reassuring — but they don't automatically tell you how a product performs, how it was made or what should happen to it after use.

The useful bit is usually in the detail.

THINGS WORTH CHECKING

LOOK PAST THE LABEL.

A few simple checks can tell you far more than a sustainability buzzword on its own.

01

WHAT IS IT ACTUALLY MADE FROM?

Look beyond the headline material. Coatings, adhesives, blends and construction can all affect how packaging performs and what happens at the end of its life.
02

WHAT DOES THE CLAIM ACTUALLY MEAN?

Recyclable, compostable and biodegradable describe different things. Look for the specific claim, certification or disposal guidance rather than treating them as interchangeable.
03

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER USE?

The best end-of-life route depends on the material and the facilities available. Check the instructions for the individual product and your local collection system.

KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS

SIMPLE CLAIMS CAN HIDE COMPLICATED ANSWERS.

Good sustainability information should help you understand what you're choosing — not just give you a nice word to put on the label.

When something sounds wonderfully simple, checking the detail is usually worth it.
